• What is Shadu Mati?
• Shadu is a type of occurring Earth Clay that is found on the river-banks in Gujarat.
• It is a self-drying clay that doesn't need to be baked, just dried in the sun.
• When it is soaked in water, it easily disintegrates and mixes in water.
• This is one of the major reasons why it is used for making the idols, it makes visarjan very easy and eco-friendly.
• Fun Fact: It takes years for PoP (Plaster of Paris) Ganpati to dissolve in water bodies after Visarjan, further polluting it! Whereas, Shadu Mati dissolves in water within hours and can be used for gardening!
